Chapter 1. Dakota stared out the window. Coffee in hand. The storm was raging. The glare of the lightning seemed to pirce her eyes. The room was silent except for the faint whinny of her mare Athena. Athena couldn't stand storms. The loud rumble of the thunder always shook her. Athena was normally a calm and gentle horse, but not when it came to storms. Although Dakota rid Athena in an indoor arena most of the time, she didn't want to bother calming her mare. She could tell Athena was getting more and more anxious. Every time lightning struck, Athena whould whinny louder. The storm was almost over. Dakota saw blue skies up ahead. She grabbed her boots and flew out the door. She ran through puddles of rain and stopped in front of the barn door. She walked down the aisle and came to Athena's stall. She led her out to the tack room... The barn's garage door flew open and out galloped Athena. They ran though the fields and towards the horizen. Edited at August 21, 2022 07:04 AM by Brookfield Stables

Dakota closed the barn door. She hiked up to her car and pulled away. It took about 15 minutes until she got to the cow market. She walked around looking for some freash meat. Up ahead she saw the dairy section. She glanced for some meat, but then she saw him. The cutest boy she has ever seen in her life. His wavy black hair was hidden by a cowboy hat. He looked like a cow rancher, which explained why he was by the cow meat. She slowly walked up and looked down to avoid his soft brown eyes. She grabbed a pack of meat and went over to him so she could pay. His name tag said Jacob. She gave him the money and scurried off. She looked back one more time. He smiled at her. She blushed and turned away, heading home. Edited at August 4, 2022 09:05 AM by Brookfield Stables

Dakota couldn't stop thinking about Jacob. She told Athena all about him. "You ready to go?" Dakota asked Athena. Athena bobbed her head up and down, signling that she was ready. Dakota climed onto Athena and then rode off. They trotted on the side of the road. Further and further they went. Then, Dakota saw a huge cow ranch! It had to have had at least 100 cows. She also spotted a stunning black fresian in the back pasture. She remembered that horse. But from where? It was the horse at the dairy market! It must have been Jacob's! She quickly turned around and saw him. Standing on the porch was Jacob. This time she couldn't be shy. He again, smiled at her and this time she smiled back. She saw him go get his horse and he started to trot up to her. She took off with Athena. Dakota glanced behind her, and he was coming...
