Geldings I do SD - breeding stock always AD, so I can match properly

I prefer AD, but that's because I breed AD and my showing stock are failed outcomes of breeding.

The Barn Manager is the only reason I show. I am terrible at tracking and entering by hand.

Do you guys prefer showing AD, SD, or a mix of both?

I used to enter all my horses by hand, but it took waayyyy too long. I found myself not entering horses at all because I didn't want to fool with it. Now I'm using the BM and I wish I had done it sooner. She may not make quite as much money as I would, but it's a lot faster and more convenient.

I've always used the barn manager - set to only competitive - and always turned a nice profit. Like last week, pulled in 252k

It's more of a time-saver than anything. She'll help you earn money over time, but probably not as much as if you entered the horses yourself.

Okay interesting, thank you. I will play around with it this GY and see what happens lol

I'm not sure what criteria the BM uses to enter them, but most just leave her set to show the same horses all the time. She's supposed to pick the ones that are expected to do well, but I've heard mixed reviews of her effectiveness.
Fernweh QH
02:01:01 Fern | Kinz
I see. So say I manage all my horses instead of only picking the ones with double the training bars than their showing level, if I toggle that, she'll only show horses that SHOULD come out profiting and not show the ones that won't? Or would it just be better to go through my horses each Monday after training and have her manage only the horses that meet that double bar standard? Sorry for the questions, I'm trying to finally turn a profit lmaooo

The only time to use "Show All" is if you have futurity foals or horses in an eventing federation where they must show all three shows each week.

show all, will show everything, even ones that don't have enough training to win money

Hey, what differences come from having the barn manager "show all horses" and "show only competitive horses?" What does that change in terms of who shows, and how is that decided?

what is your greatest horsie fear.
my greatest horsie fear is when a draft horse goes to canter. when you are riding a draft they are big and there canter is scary, when they go to canter they take a leap into the canter. i dont know why this is my fear of all the things but it is, its probably because i grew up riding ponies and jumpers its a lot diffrent then riding a draft. i do show jumping so one might think my greatest fear would be the height or speed, but i can go head first blazing speed at a 3"3 oxer and not even hesitat. so this is my horse fear, whats yours.

When it comes to riding I'm what they call an "anxious rider." I love horseback riding, but I have a hard time handling horses that are hot or spooky. Thankfully, my horse is a steady QH gelding so I rarely, if ever, worry about him taking off or spooking.

That being said, I think my greatest fear is being on an uncontrollable horse. That could mean taking off or bucking. There is nothing worse that being on a horse that won't listen to you and is putting you at risk. You either have to decide to try and stay on said horse and dismount and eat dirt.

i think my biggest fear is having a rotational fall. Its almost happened to me once, but luckily i managed to roll away so the horse didnt crush me. it was terrifying. I actually love riding dangerous, fast or spooky horses because it gives me a chance to really bond with the horse and teach them to be calm and happy, but when it comes to rotational falls, its terrifying for me.

Weirdly enough, I'm not afraid of falls/bucking/speed/jumps, etc. I can keep my butt in the saddle so to speak like a champ. But I haven't ridden a horse since I fractured my elbow because I'm worried I won't be able to 'fight' them if they try to test my weak side/bad elbow.

Health issues popping up suddenly. Happens all the time with horses, costs a bunch of money, you put in a bunch of time and work to correct it with no certainty everything will be fine again.

Getting to the barn early in the morning or late at night and finding a horse that's been suffering for hours. Absolutely just stomach-dropping.

Im very scared of holes and ditches, as my horses are clumsy and I would dread to have to put them down if something happened to them. Ive had nightmares.

I am not afraid of crazy/untrained horses at all, falling and running off doesn't scare me same with rearing. I grew up on a pony that bolted and bucked XD Honestly what really scares me is falling under a horse and getting trampled or a horse falling on me.
-
The other thing that really scares me is waking up to my horses gone. I am so afraid of them being stolen since they are in front of my house. We have cameras on them at all times but I still worry.
