Bird, that's because his bars equal his training level. I would call this the bare minimum for entering. I'd expect this one to come in 6th to 8th. When they have more bars than training level, they do well

I think what's confusing me is horses like this have 8 bars, but will still do poorly in a show.

I prefer AD, but that's because I breed AD and my showing stock are failed outcomes of breeding.

The Barn Manager is the only reason I show. I am terrible at tracking and entering by hand.

Do you guys prefer showing AD, SD, or a mix of both?

I used to enter all my horses by hand, but it took waayyyy too long. I found myself not entering horses at all because I didn't want to fool with it. Now I'm using the BM and I wish I had done it sooner. She may not make quite as much money as I would, but it's a lot faster and more convenient.

I've always used the barn manager - set to only competitive - and always turned a nice profit. Like last week, pulled in 252k

It's more of a time-saver than anything. She'll help you earn money over time, but probably not as much as if you entered the horses yourself.

I'm not sure what criteria the BM uses to enter them, but most just leave her set to show the same horses all the time. She's supposed to pick the ones that are expected to do well, but I've heard mixed reviews of her effectiveness.

02:01:01 Fern | Kinz
I see. So say I manage all my horses instead of only picking the ones with double the training bars than their showing level, if I toggle that, she'll only show horses that SHOULD come out profiting and not show the ones that won't? Or would it just be better to go through my horses each Monday after training and have her manage only the horses that meet that double bar standard? Sorry for the questions, I'm trying to finally turn a profit lmaooo

The only time to use "Show All" is if you have futurity foals or horses in an eventing federation where they must show all three shows each week.

I've been looking for some tall riding boots and have found this pair. Click I think I really like them, and was just curious if anyone has had any experience with these in particular, or this brand. Or just any general advice on tall boots! Thank you all!

If you want them to last, don't buy them. I had a pair of Horze a few years back, and they did not hold up to consistent use. Horze is a cheap brand in general, and I can almost guarantee these boots are made from artificial leather.
I'm not sure how much you will be using them, for me I wore them every time I rode, about 3-5 times a week at the time. Twice a day maximum, I only had 2 horses then. They were not terribly abused, I dusted them off after every week and cleaned them thoroughly about once every two weeks. Kept them as far away from water as I could. I will say they were incredibly thin, which works well if you need them to stretch.
I really don't have anything good to say about Horze boots, aside from them being cheap.

However, a boot I would recommend would definitely be a baseline Ariat field boot. Most local tack shops will carry them, and will probably have a good deal on them too. I have a pair of the Contour II field boots, got them for $200 at my local tack store. Great quality leather, thick but not too thick. They take a bit to break in, but once you do they're amazing.
If you wanted to go a bit further, I would recommend Tattini. They're my current favorite, so much so that I've sidelined my Ariats. Incredible quality leather, thinner than Ariat but easier to break in, and fits your leg amazingly. Mine have an elastic side panel that allows them to stretch a bit, as I have small ankles but semi big calves. They're beautiful and have held up wonderfully through all the wear and tear I've put them through, including waltzing through paddocks full of puddles. They retail for about $350-400, for the model I have at least (the boxer). However, I got a discount because my grandmother is one of their retailers. I'm sure you could snag a pair for $300.
This is all just my opinion, I'm sure others will have different opinions, and I encourage you to compare them and decide on what is best for you :)

Recommend for good quality on a lower budget:
Mountain Horse, Ariat, Tredstep, DeNiro.
Parlanti are my faves and will last for ages but they're expensive.

The Horze brand WILL NOT hold up. The boots fall apart. I've had 3 pairs all different styles and they are terrible.

Ariats are your best bet.

Horze is a cheap brand mainly aimed at beginners who want to look the part. Honestly, if you want a nice pair of boots that will hold up, go have a look at Dublin, or even Ariat! (A little more on the pricy side, but well worth it if you're going to be riding lots.)
Ariats are great because even though they are very expensive, the boots hold up amazingly and if they dont, you can send them back every year and they'll send you a new pair or refund you! I personally love my dublins, but my mother loves a new pair of boots every year and swears by her ariats lol.
