Shouldn't make that big a difference, since you won't see a change until at least wk 3, more likely wk 4

How big of a deal is it to have an SD horse accidentally train AD their first week?

@Cloud, I noticed that most of your AD geldings are a mix of WEP. Do you like those ratings?

I would say on the second one that it's the equivalent of having even bars across since it's down one and up one in traits. So it will probably need another week.

I've also found that some stats count for more than others, so having a good Int in dressage is more important than having a bad Str

Your second gelding averages out to equal bars (+1 in Int, -1 in Str), so he's still ready

Bird, that's because his bars equal his training level. I would call this the bare minimum for entering. I'd expect this one to come in 6th to 8th. When they have more bars than training level, they do well

Well she’s gone. At least she’s no long suffering.

Or this horse has 8 bars in two traits, but not one so is he ready?

I think what's confusing me is horses like this have 8 bars, but will still do poorly in a show.

Geldings I do SD - breeding stock always AD, so I can match properly
Drafty Acres

I prefer AD, but that's because I breed AD and my showing stock are failed outcomes of breeding.

Where on the leg was the cut? Was it ever evaluated by a vet?

Its on the cannon bone of his left hind leg.

Ok if it was on the cannon there are no muscles on that part of the leg, only tendons and ligaments. I'm assuming this cut was limited to the very front of the leg, the only major structure other than bone in that area is the extensor tendon. If the cut was deep enough this tendon could have been compromised. You said he drags his toe? Does he ever flick it out at the end of a stride?

I also want to say that I am not a vet. I've rehabbed a wide variety of injuries in horses and I have some medical training, but any advice I give here is just that: advice. I cannot formally diagnose anything that could be wrong with this horse, I can only steer you in a possible direction for what COULD be the matter.

It was on the inside of the leg. Im not sure how he did that, but ofc its horses. They find every way to hurt themselves.
And no ive never noticed him flick it. But ill go watch a few vids I took of him recently, and see if he flicks it or not.

Well if it was on the inside of the leg then there are many more structures that could potentially be involved, and which one/how severely can't be diagnosed without ultrasounds or other imaging.
