Bird, that's because his bars equal his training level. I would call this the bare minimum for entering. I'd expect this one to come in 6th to 8th. When they have more bars than training level, they do well

Or this horse has 8 bars in two traits, but not one so is he ready?

I think what's confusing me is horses like this have 8 bars, but will still do poorly in a show.

Geldings I do SD - breeding stock always AD, so I can match properly

I prefer AD, but that's because I breed AD and my showing stock are failed outcomes of breeding.

The Barn Manager is the only reason I show. I am terrible at tracking and entering by hand.

Do you guys prefer showing AD, SD, or a mix of both?

I used to enter all my horses by hand, but it took waayyyy too long. I found myself not entering horses at all because I didn't want to fool with it. Now I'm using the BM and I wish I had done it sooner. She may not make quite as much money as I would, but it's a lot faster and more convenient.

I've always used the barn manager - set to only competitive - and always turned a nice profit. Like last week, pulled in 252k

It's more of a time-saver than anything. She'll help you earn money over time, but probably not as much as if you entered the horses yourself.

Okay interesting, thank you. I will play around with it this GY and see what happens lol

I'm not sure what criteria the BM uses to enter them, but most just leave her set to show the same horses all the time. She's supposed to pick the ones that are expected to do well, but I've heard mixed reviews of her effectiveness.
Fernweh QH
02:01:01 Fern | Kinz
I see. So say I manage all my horses instead of only picking the ones with double the training bars than their showing level, if I toggle that, she'll only show horses that SHOULD come out profiting and not show the ones that won't? Or would it just be better to go through my horses each Monday after training and have her manage only the horses that meet that double bar standard? Sorry for the questions, I'm trying to finally turn a profit lmaooo

The only time to use "Show All" is if you have futurity foals or horses in an eventing federation where they must show all three shows each week.

show all, will show everything, even ones that don't have enough training to win money

I'd move him. Health and safety are my first concerns for both you and Roman. With no shade in the pasture when it gets to hot it's not good for him. Also if there's not even a lean to/run in shelter for the elements then you could have a sick or injured horse on your hands. Plus if you are boarding your horse you need access to him 24/7 in case something happens. With her gate being locked and dogs loose that's a big no go for me as well.

Here is another vote for moving. Honestly, this is supposed to be a fun and relaxing experience for both you and Roman. It is extremely obvious that it has turned into the opposite for you, and with the no shade/shelter situation, possibly for him as well. I would move him based on those facts alone, give it a few months to settle and just enjoy “plodding” the trails and chilling together. Once that time is up, you should know what the trainer situation looks like and be able to make your decisions about your future in a happy (and safe!) environment.

Thanks for all of the thoughts guys. I’'m going to stay long enough to hopefully use the prepaid lessons I have up so I’'m not out money. I have 4 left, if I can ever get anything scheduled. I asked if she’'d put a ride or two on him this weekend while I’m out of town instead of a lesson, we’ll see if she does. Once I’'ve used them up we’re gonna get outta there.

I’'m glad you all agree with me. I was kinda thinking I was being a bit of a stickler lol.

I'd definitely move. The dogs alone would be a no-go for me. I'd constantly worry that they'd get into my horse's pasture, get loose and attack us while riding, etc etc.
