Shouldn't make that big a difference, since you won't see a change until at least wk 3, more likely wk 4

How big of a deal is it to have an SD horse accidentally train AD their first week?

@Cloud, I noticed that most of your AD geldings are a mix of WEP. Do you like those ratings?

I would say on the second one that it's the equivalent of having even bars across since it's down one and up one in traits. So it will probably need another week.

I've also found that some stats count for more than others, so having a good Int in dressage is more important than having a bad Str

Your second gelding averages out to equal bars (+1 in Int, -1 in Str), so he's still ready

Bird, that's because his bars equal his training level. I would call this the bare minimum for entering. I'd expect this one to come in 6th to 8th. When they have more bars than training level, they do well

Or this horse has 8 bars in two traits, but not one so is he ready?

I think what's confusing me is horses like this have 8 bars, but will still do poorly in a show.

Geldings I do SD - breeding stock always AD, so I can match properly

I prefer AD, but that's because I breed AD and my showing stock are failed outcomes of breeding.

So I have a new love. At my barn, we do a lot of work with ex-polo ponies. We got one about 2 weeks ago and he is just the sweetest ball of mush. TO start, his name is Coquito, which means fuzzy little coconut. A perfect name for the guy. I rode him for the first time last week, and he's amazing. He's really soft in the mouth, and very attentive. The only troubles we had was getting on in the indoor to head up where he spooked a bit at the vaulting equipment in the corner. After that, he was an angel. He has a lovely trot, and collects and extends beautifully. He canter is that great smooth, rocking horse stride, and he can still turn on a dime if you asked him to. While getting him to adjust to direct rein steering could be a bit of a challenge, he's 100% worth it. Once I get some pictures uploaded, I'll post them.

I just got the pictures uploaded, so here are some of my favorites.

He decided to be a bit cheeky for this one and kept nudging my shoulder the whole time.

I finally got him to sit still long enough to get one more during our impromptu photo shoot.

Just an update on my lovely boy: He picked up his left lead today! It takes a while to retrain polo ponies to pick it up, and he was less than thrilled, by he kept going for a few laps around the indoor. He still doesn’t like the vaulting equipment, but he doesn’t stop dead in his tracks when we pass it anymore.
