I tried what you recommended, Trillium. The front wing is meant to look like it's behind the side of a mountain or a rock. Any recommendations on how exactly to sharpen the wings? (I use Ibis Paint X)

Try adding more strands of different shades of gray to the mane and tail. As you use lighter shades, make your brush smaller :)

What could I do to improve this piece? Opinions of it?

Definitely take a look at your lighting. In this image, your light source is behind the horse. Because of this, the horse's face should be quite a bit darker with highlights being on the edge of the horse's body. I like that the horse is the main focus of the image.

--> Next time try using a. Different brush, use actual horse hair for references as everyone knows all. Hair isn't just a blob of black. I find it's best, as already said, tk use multiple different shades, there are also multiple. Hair tueorials on hee and on deviant art you can take a look at. I find it's easier to start with shadows, work on highlights and then add more. Depth and shadows. --> you've erased a rather large chunk of the cheek. And there's also a yellow. Blob on the lip. And a ton of the original bg still on the legs. Next time. Use a sharper brush and pay more attention when cutting out the horse --> you've got to think about where and how you place your subject. In this case the horse, on the background. The horse and background are at 2 fairly different angles. And you've also made the horse to big so it doesn't look right in the image. If the horse is running through water there would be splashes and a reflection, which there is not. --> you've got to think about the image itself and think about every single part of it, what is the horse looking at where is it even coming from. Think about this next time. --> blurring the background also helps keep focus on the horse Blue moon mountain said: This one is posted on my SA but Its my first attempt at art. Help?
