So do i, but there is nothing wrong with waiting until they train up. Retrun on Investment will be worth it when all of those level ones level up to higher levels at the same time in the future.

I'm wanting to open another shop after being away from art for about 2+ years. I put up an auction piece for the first time since then and it was ABd for 1 million. I got a commission from another stable based off that piece shortly after. This really pushed me to want to open another shop but it's been awhile so I wanted to see where I might sit in art Teirs.
When I first started doing art I was Teir 3 (before Teir 4 was a thing) and my art was okay. I feel like I've improved exponentially since then and I definitely wouldn't be a Teir 3 anymore. My problem is I'm afraid to go straight into Teir 1 and my art doesn't fit. I also don't want to under sell myself in Teir 2 if I really could be in Teir 1. Which is why I have come to the forums for help!
I'm posting those 2 most recent pieces I mentioned above to get a feel for what people tthink. Please please please be brutally honest and give me all the feedback and criticism!! I really want fo know where I sit and what I can improve on! Thanks in advance for any feedback you guys give me!!
I've put the photos as well as a link to open in a new page to see even more details!

Hi! You've got a really great foundation, and you seem confident in your body prep, color changes, and patterns! Also the lighting on the chains in the commission piece is such a small detail but it looks fantastic *-*

I would say you're T2, as I feel just based on these pieces that there are a few areas you dont seem super confident with yet ^^

your lighting could be stronger and more confident, especially in the commission piece, where it seems very soft and random, where the horse should be lit strongly from behind.

The rendering on the hair is gorgeous, though it does feel very chunky and solid. Add flyaways and variation in hair strands! It shouldnt be one smooth shape. Multiple larger hair strands with clearer definition between them really helps it feel dynamic and interesting.

Just looking at the highlights on the neck of the commission piece, it seems like you arent super confident in anatomy yet, as the highlights dont follow the musculature of the neck, especially in that flexed position. Its hard for me to explain but i can edit with pics of what i mean/how to neck flexes tomorrow morning :3

I'd also love to know how well you can handle background blends, repainting horses, tack removals, wings, etc.

.

I hope this is coherent lol i really oughtn't be online so late x'D

No it makes total sense! I see every point you're making! And thank you so much for noticing the chains! I LOVED how they came out!
I'm very confident with wings, recoloring, patterns and both of these pieces are blended backgrounds. I also blend horse stock which I'm very confident in as well. Both those pieces have legs/hooves from other stocks and Ive patched heads/legs or other body parts from other stock photos.
I dont love tack removals and the most I'll do is a halter/bridle removal but there's usually tons of stock that dont have tthem. I would'nt say I'm very confident in repainting. I would rather blend other stock pieces then try and repaint lol. Hair has always been the biggest struggle but obviously it's one of the few things I fully hand paint. It's a new style I've tried, a huge improvement from what it was but yes it does still need work lol. Eyes are another weakness I feel I have. I know only one shows the actual eyes, but I feel like it could still be better. I'm not super confident with crazy lighting and colors which is why I tried to practice with these 2. They came out okay but I definitely agreed I need more work on that.
Thank you so so much! If you want to draw me a diagram to point out everything I'm messing up on I would be absolutely honored😂

Definitely agree with KPH on their points, tier 2 for sure. Also, don't be afraid to go crazy on the hair. You've got a solid foundation!
